The Origin of
“The Birthing Stool”
The term first appears in Exodus 1:16, where the Hebrew word obnayim translates to “two stones.” This refers to the earliest birthing stool, a simple yet sacred setup where two stones were placed beneath a woman in labor. Even then, the act of birth was recognized as holy, a divine moment of partnership with God in creation.
